Music Director Lorin Maazel and the Philharmonic ring in the New Year with operatic favorites, both orchestral and vocal. The Romanian soprano Angela Gheorghiu, in her New York Philharmonic debut, will perform arias by Rossini, Catalani, Cilea, Mascagni, Verdi, and Ponchielli, as well as three of her trademark Puccini arias: “Un bel di” from Madama Butterfly, “Chi il bel sogno di Doretta” from La Rondine, and “Vissi d’arte” from Tosca.
